However it doesn't achieve a perfect score from some frustratingly insane levels that if one meebling is one or two pixels off, you lose... yeah that's right, I'm looking at you level 45.
However, I was able to beat it and would love to see more!

Armed with Wings 2 is a much better game, just go play that one. The Minotaur on level 6, while able to be defeated, can only be defeated by luck and spastic button mashing. You're going to try it 10 times over, and if you're OCD like me, do it. If you're not, you'll try it 4 times, say screw this, and close the window. It's a shame the author is not updating this game to balance level 6.

...or at least on the higher difficulty levels. This is not to say the game is bad, it's just in order to beat the harder difficulty levels, you need to grind your way up by defeating the red flame guys for about half an hour. While this may be a lot of fun for some, I'm just going to stick with the Casual difficulty.
As for the claim of skipping the "dozen levels"... the fact you have to grind so much while facing the boss kind of makes those levels missed. I mean the whole point in most other games of skipping the dozens of levels is to level up so that that boss fight is easier and manageable. Instead, here, I just have to kill the same amount of enemies as I would have in the dozens of levels, while dodging the boss.
The final swords are possible to get, but again, you have to grind (and make sure you have Adobe Flash Player 10).
tl;dr: Good game, fun fight, but misses the target on a few fronts, especially the one about not having the grind your way up through levels full of minor enemies... ya do, just in a different format.
Suggestions for improvement: Remove the grind, and have multiple boss fights in a row that allow you to level up appropriately... and have slowly regenerating health for those of us who are skilled enough to dodge a few hits (would make life easier). Add bonuses for skilled players to level up faster (XP bonuses for combos, etc.)

"Finally a game that doesn't punish you..."
...for thinking outside the box. The beginning solutions are usually right in front of your face, but once you get to the later levels, and because you have unlimited tries, you are more than welcome to mix things up a little without fear of "losing" the game. And the fact that it saves the last level you played makes this game great to pick up and go anytime you have a few minutes. This would make a great mini-game for the Nintendo DS.

This game is a lot of fun, but it's broken. The link in the lower right means that, if you happen to want to kill a monster there, your whole computer is going to freeze up as you sit and try to blast them away. There is also a way to configure he bodies so you can literally go on forever simply but continuously blasting one side of the screen with bullets for about 5 minutes, and then change directions and fight the other side of the screen at your leisure.
The only critical and thrilling parts of the game are when you first start off. When you get the dual pistols and pile the bodies correctly, you could literally go on forever until your computer crashes from the insane amount of memeory taken by loading the sponsoring website for the 5 millionth time.
Ways to make this a better game:
1. Move the link to the upper right, zombies never appear there.
2. Add an ending or some other incentive to keep playing after you get the dual pistols
3. Ramp up AI so I can't make them get stuck on the top of a pile of bodies attacking the air above me, while I slaughter them wholesale by standing next to the bottom and firing upwards.
4. Larger playable area is a must.
5.Larger variety of weapons, or have weapons be selectable.
Thank you for your efforts on making this, and while it is timely, play testing once or twice would've been advisible so you could fix simple things like the link in the corner that detract SO much from what is otherwise great gameplay.

What do you people want out of it? It explicitly says just an opening theme. Anyway, Asci I look forward to a flash animation from you, I hope you continue with this and don't let it die out like so many flash authors do. Don't worry about the art, it'll come in time, what this is mainly going to be focused on is the writing. I normally think you're very funny so I have high hopes for this. Let us know when you get this up and if you need any help.

Game? Great game, very simple and fun to play.
But how on earth did this escape blamming due to the numerous amount of bugs present in the game? You can't even get close to finishing the game or getting a decent amount of upgrades without something bugging out. Any precursory play test would've shown up at least one of many bugs this thing has.
You say you'll release another version in a few months that will be bug free, but let's be realistic, 3 months down the line no one is going to be sitting around waiting for that version to come out.
And how this made it to the front page is beyond me. If it was bug free it would completely deserve front page, but in it's current state it should've never been released. And I like the game so I'm not happy to say that.
Graphics: Very simple, very nice, simple "blue vs red" scheme.
Style: If it was bug free it would be great because it's a simple, asteroid-esque shooter with an upgrade twist.
Sound: The music cuts out eventually, but it's good when it does play.
Interactivity: Too many bugs to try to play with. My progress bar disappears, sometimes my ship disappears, sometimes enemies get stuck off screen... etc.
Humor: It's not meant to be funny anyway so...
Overall: Just too many bugs to be an enjoyable experience, especially for those of us who did make it to about level 13, spent all this time making our ships awesome, only to not have a single enemy spawn so we can finish the level.
Simple suggestion: Add a save and load function. If you can't do that, then add a button that simply "ends" the level in emergency cases. I know, people may just use it to skip to the end, but then they won't get to upgrade their ships as much as those who play it fair do. If on level 13 last night, I had an "end" button just to get past a level that I couldn't finish due to lack of spawning, I would've probably been much more satisfied. :)

This game doesn't have the best graphics, it doesn't have the best sounds, but what it does have it style. Everything in this game fits the feel and flow of the game perfectly. I'm sure the artist could've made the final boss a fancy graphic that wasn't just an enlarged pixelized mess, but that wouldn't have fit with the early 90s late 80s side scrolling shooter feel. There's nothing new or exciting here, it's a side scrolling shooter for goodness sakes! But that's okay, because this is a classic game style done perfectly. It's like the retelling of a story: if you do it right, no one will care that they've heard the story a million times, they'll still be on the edge of their seats and want to hear it over and over again.
Excellent job, sir.

I played this game last night and couldn't stomach it for too long. However, I didn't review it then because I was tired and cranky and just thought maybe if I tried it the next day when I was aiming to procrastinate, it might be better.
Not quite.
1. There was no skip button for the opening cut scene so by the time I got into the game again, I was already cranky.
2. There are no instructions included in the game that states ducking makes you invincible.
3. WHY DOES DUCKING MAKE YOU INVINCIBLE?!
4. Pico can't duck and cock his shotgun at the same time?
5. Why does Pico have a shotgun? He's always used automatic weaponry. His "trademark" weapon is an Uzi, although I do believe he uses an M4A1 in the original game.
6. I would appreciate being able to control the zoom on the bosses so I could see everything that going on.
7. If you inch along while an enemy is coming up, he'll get stuck on the side of the screen and just hop there while you blast him.
8. Regular enemy combat is annoying and repetitive.
9. I kept getting hearts instead of money even though I had full life.
10. No mouse interface, at all.
11. How was the girl able to sneak into the school to grab a shotgun and when I arrive, there's 3 robots waiting for me?
12. How was an 8 year old girl able to nurse me back from what was very well a concussion on my forehead?
If you want to play this game, my advice is to do the invincibility bug that was mentioned before. Otherwise, I would stay away.

It's obvious you have talent with coding and I felt the simple graphics were far more appropriate then over complicated ones. Overall I like playing it. I'm just curious on why the ship falls towards the bottom of the screen when you don't thrust anywhere?
